RapidIO

The RapidIO Trade Association is a non-profit corporation controlled by its members. The Trade Association directs the future development and drives the adoption of a new interconnect technology called the RapidIO architecture. For networking products, the RapidIO architecture promises increased bandwidth, lower costs, and a faster time-to-market than other more computer-centric bus standards. Interested companies are invited to join the RapidIO Trade Association. Members of the association have access to the RapidIO interconnect architecture specifications. Membership also allows attendance at member meetings.

Alcatel, EMC Corporation, Ericsson, IBM, Lucent Technologies, Mercury Computer Systems, Motorola, and Tundra comprise the initial Steering Committee of the RapidIO Trade Association. To date, 40 other companies have joined the growing RapidIO community.

Network Processing Forum

The Network Processing Forum (NPF) was organized to facilitate and accelerate the development of next-generation networking and telecommunications products based on network processing technologies. By establishing common specifications, the NPF enables equipment manufacturers to significantly reduce their design burden, while having the flexibility to use the best components to fit their requirements.

The organization was formed to build on the efforts of two former industry groups – the Common Programming Interface Forum (CPIX) and the Common Switch Interface Consortium (CSIX) – by delivering specifications for programmable network elements that reduce equipment time-to-market, while dramatically increasing time-in-market.

PICMG

PICMG (PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group) is a consortium of over 600 companies who collaboratively develop open specifications for high performance telecommunications and industrial computing applications. The members of the consortium have a long history of developing leading edge products for these industries. PICMG specifications include CompactPCI® for Eurocard, rackmount applications and PCI/ISA for passive backplane, standard format cards.

PICMG's purpose is to offer equipment vendors common specifications, thereby increasing availability and reducing costs and time to market. The PCI specifications provide a clear upgrade path for OEMs wishing to migrate to new designs.
